14th Day - Ziua 14

Last Day / Ultima zi

Today we went to Tiberias...for the last time. First, we drank a fresh fruit juice at our friend Itzic, who "introduced" me the secret of juice making. Then, a little bit of shopping, met some people, packed and ready for the flight tomorrow.
Ahh...time flyes when you're having fun (we used to say in highschool).

13th Day - Ziua 13

Bike Tour around the Sea of Galilee / Un pic de ciclism in jurul Marii Galileei

The best thing to do on a sunny day is to hire a bike and visit the major sites on the shore of the Sea of Galilee. So, here I am...

Our route / Ruta noastra:

Bike Tour auf einer größeren Karte anzeigen

Migdal, 6 km north of Tiberias was the birthplace of Mary Magdalene. We saw the ruins of the old city, but we did not stop for pictures.

Our first stop was in Tabgha, at the Church of the Multiplication of Loaves and Fishes, also called the Heptagon. Under the Altar was the rock, where Jesus laid the five loaves and two fishes that multiplied to feed 5000 hungry listeners. Outside the church was a small fountain...full of fish.

Next we visited the Church of the Primacy of st Peter, constructed on the spot where the resurrected Jesus conferred the church leadership to Peter. The church contains another rock, Mensa Christi, on which is believed Jesus and his disciplines breakfasted fish.

Our last stop was at Capernaum, the home of Jesus during His most influential period of ministry. Here He preached at the synagogue, healed the sick and recruited his first disciples.

After the aprox. 30 km...I was veeeery tired and happy to be home again.

Dupa cele aprox. 30 de km...am fost fooooarte obosita si bucuroasa cand in sfarsit am ajuns acasa.

12th Day - Ziua 12

Last day in Tel Aviv

Slept until noon, took a walk in Holon, shopped and then relaxed in a small, nice Japanese garden. After 6 pm caught a bus back to Tiberias.

Ultima zi in Tel Aviv

Dupa 18 am m-am urcat in autobus - directia Tiberias

11th Day - Ziua 11

Jerusalem

Amazing!!!

I've seen many things so far, but the ancient walled city of Jerusalem left me speechless. No matter if you're religious or not...Jerusalem is simply fascinating. The city of the three great faiths: Judaism, Christianity and Islam offers loads of things to visit.

Fascinant!!!

Unfortunately, because lack of time, I've managed to see only two:

(1) The Western Wall (the outer portion of the Temple Mount)

According to rabbinical texts, the devine presence never deserted the wall, and is regarded as the most holy of all Jewish sites. There are two entrences: one for the men and one for women. Same with the Wall: a wide part for the men, a small part for women. I found it discriminating, but anyways... When you get near the Wall, you can see loads of small notes stuffed in the cracks. It is said that prayers inserted there are more likely to be answered. We'll see! :)

Mi s-a parut discriminatnt...dar ce sa-i faci...asa-i cu religia asta. ;)

 (2) The Church of the Holy Sepulchre

The Church stands on the place where Jesus is said  to have been crucified. The stones on which His cross stood as well as His tomb are real highlights.

      Biserica Sfantului Mormant

Things I also liked: the market within the walls and the food! ;)

One thing is for sure, I will definitely return to Jerusalem and continue with my sightseeing.

10th Day - Ziua 10

Shopping in Tel Aviv

Tel Aviv is great for shopping...you can find everything you want at affordable prices. So, I had to 'visit' some malls, some shoe shops, some markets... ;)

Isrealian money

Sales everywhere

...and after a long shopping day, a small snack: kürtöskalacs! ;)

9th Day - Ziua 9

Tel Aviv - Jaffa

A day in the old city of Jaffa...
Tel Aviv was begun by small groups of Jews who wished to migrate from the cramped and unsanitary confines of long established, predominantly Arab Jaffa. A walk in this area was really a journey in the past. The flee market, the narrow streets helped us get into the atmosphere. We also had a great guide: our host - Koral. ;)
The day ended in a nice restaurant: The Old man and the sea...deliciooouuuussssss foooood!

Tel Aviv: old town Jaffa

O zi minunata in orasul vechi: Jaffa
Constuirea Tel Avivului a inceput cand niste grupuri de evrei au hotarat sa migreze in afara orasului Jaffa, inghesuit si murdar si predominant arab. O plimbare in aceasta zona a fost o calatorie in trecut.
Yammy!!!

8th Day - Ziua 8

Tel Aviv - New Harbour

After a looong sleep we woke up at around 14, and went out as soon as we could to enjoy the beautiful day. Destination: New Harbour
Sun, Sea, nice people, coffee...I guess I said everything!

Tel Aviv: New Harbour

Destinatia: Portul Nou
Mare, soare, companie placuta, cafea...cred ca am spus tot!

7th Day - Ziua 7

Finally...SUN! :D
Before heading to Tel Aviv we took a walk in the Kibbutz, Yardenit and the Sea of Galilee...to make more photos in the sun...Not much to say...
Check out the pictures:

Kinneret

In sfarsit a iesit soarele! :D

At around 5 pm we arrived in Tel Aviv...the city that never sleeps. ;) We went to eat a delicious dinner and then went out to "Cheers" until 5 in the morning. Had a great night!

;) Dupa o cina israeliana am iesit in "Cheers" pana la 5 dimineata. Foarte fain!

6th Day - Ziua 6

Yardenit

Yardenit is the place on the shore of the Jordan river, where people from all around the world come to be baptised. Dressed in white grabs, they line up while praying and singing and wait to be dipped in the river. Even though most of the people believe it's the place where Jesus was baptised...it is NOT. He was baptised at Al-Maghets, near Jericho - out of bounds to piligrims because its proximity to the Jordanian - West Bank border.

5th Day - Ziua 5

Again RAIN...so I decided to stay dry -> therefore stayed in, relaxed, read, watched movies...
Hopefully tomorrow the sun will come out!

4th Day - Ziua 4

Nazareth

Ever since I knew I was coming to Israel, Nazareth was a must see for me. Unfortunately, I have to start by saying, it was really not what I've expected. Being the largest Arab city in Israel (and taking account the conflict between them and the Israelis)...there were moments when I felt I was not safe. Few tourists, mainly male locals on the labyrinthic and empty streets, and of course...rain (from time to time). So, as you can imagine it was not really a pleasure to walk around. Not to mention that we got lost several times and it was a challenge to find the sights (even though we had a map). We spent so much time searching that there was no more joy left, when we finally found what we were looking for. But well...I saw everything I was interested in.

Nazareth

Basilica of the Annunciation - the largest church in the Middle East.
This Basilica is believed to stand on the site of Mary's home, where the Angel Gabriel appeared to her and announced that she was pregnant. The whole church is full of mother-and-child themed paintings donated by Catholic communities from around the world.

St Joseph's church
Not far from the Basilica there is this other church built in 1914 on the site considered to be that of Joseph's carpentry shop. Down in the crypt there are more things to be seen.

Biserica Sf. Iosif

Salesian Church of Jesus the Adolescent
This Gothic style built church is believed to be the most beautiful from Nazareth's many churches. I did not find it that impresive though. We got there accidently, after climbing up so many stairs, we thought it was something else. The Church is connected to a school. In order to get inside the church, you have to cross the main hall of the school...very dark and creepy. Brrr...

St Gabriel's Church and Mary's Well
Ohhh...we searched all day for this church and the well. I wanted to take some water, as it is said to have healing powers. ;) The Church is a Greek Orthodox one and after their believes Angel Gabriel appeared to Mary while she was fetching water, not while she was home. Other believes, other Church.

Biserica Sf. Gavril si Izvorul Mariei
Off...cat am cautat dupa biserica asta.

Conclusion of the day: I don't know if I ever go there again but I'm not sorry i've been there...once! The city is just dirty with cats running around every corner, houses are in desperate need of renovation and as I wrote before, I didn't feel safe. Pherhaps is just my subjective perception, because all people we asked for directions were nice and friendly but those empty streets were really scary to me...
